Turns out you don't need satellites to keep perfect time.
Our miro Edge Core gateway and LORIOT's network supports Class B LoRaWAN - Indoors!
Class A listens for messages right after they're sent, which is Ideal for battery-powered devices, but sacrifices downlink reliability. Class C is always awake, meaning quick responses, at the cost of battery life.
Class B splits the difference: scheduled listening windows, low-latency and low-power. Reliable FUOTA is made possible, since firmware updates need multiple downlinks delivered right on schedule.
The catch, is that Class B only works if every device shares a precise, common clock, normally handled via GPS. Indoor solutions without a GPS signal lose their time reference, causing listening windows to shift, and messages arrive late or not at all.
Thankfully, LORIOT's LNS provides an alternative. It pushes GPS-grade time sync to the gateway, which then beacons that timing out to every device on schedule.
Because the miro Edge Core IoT gateway can leverage the Class B indoors thanks to our collaboration with the team at LORIOT, we unlock new applications for the standard, from Facility Management to Logistic/Asset Tracking.
